Every School, Every Teacher, Every Student

I’ve yet to meet a parent who didn’t want their child to attend a school which provides the best education, a friendly encounter with peers and a safe environment. A key topic that has raised the eyebrows of some school districts, teachers and parents is the passing of Senate Bill 2. It allows parent to use public tax dollars to pay for their child’s private school tuition. Some see it as a deterioration of the public school system. I don’t think there will be a huge loss of students or teachers in larger school districts but a minor impact in rural areas. Private schools accept a certain number of students. In my opinion, a voucher program is an opportunity for public schools to manage classroom size, offer one-on-one attention to students inside the classroom setting and better police student and staff safety.

For evaluation purposes, San Antonio Independent School District test score proficiency averages at 24% in mathematics and 38% in reading for elementary, middle school and high school students. The district receives approximately 54% of its revenue from state and federal funding. There are 98 schools and 45,255 students according to a U.S. News report. In 2024 only 46% of students across San Antonio were reading on grade level and only 31% were performing on grade level in math. As mayor of San Antonio we will focus on education regeneration. But let’s not panic because the Only Way, is Up SA.

I don’t believe every parent will remove their child from public schools because private schools accept a certain number of students. Respectfully the exit of children from public schools will provide a wakeup call for the city, school districts and teachers to enhance and evolve as educators. School vouchers create options for parents which will encourage public schools to become more competitive in academic performance and accountable for better results. It will take commitment and cooperation from parents in order to achieve excellence. As mayor of San Antonio I will initiate my “Every School, Every Teacher and Every Student Initiative”. My “Every School, Every Teacher and Every Student Initiative” will offer assistance in making sure we don’t lose funding below what’s required for every school to function. I will contend for keeping every teacher working to maximize the potential of our children. I believe it will elevate the quality of education from a more concentrated teaching approach. Therefore, I will fight for more competitive pay scales for every teacher. My initiative is geared towards our expected result of every student receiving a world-class education to become a productive pillar in society and in life.

As mayor of San Antonio, I will assure smart leadership is at the forefront. I will evaluate where the future is going, create a plan to incorporate measures which are future-focused and maximize our potential. One major element of my “Every School, Every Teacher and Every Student Initiative” is to improve the education of our children by Artificial Intelligence. I believe AI will not replace but simplify the jobs of teachers within the public education school districts. There are some benefits and setbacks accredited to AI involvement in the classroom which the school district can monitor and make adjustments to what’s most beneficial. AI can benefit our education system by creating personalized learning curriculums through analyzing student data. Students will benefit from virtual tutoring as AI suggests training for learning gaps. Teachers will benefit by dedicating more to learning methods and enjoying their lives after school is out due to automated administrative tasks like grading assignments. I will end the days of being overworked and underpaid. The feedback the schools receive from AI implementation will create a more productive teacher-student experience.
